Listed building consent shaped every decision on this job. Nothing could be fixed to the front elevation, no penetration could be visible from the promenade, and the original cornice detail had to survive intact in every room.
The answer was Williams WDA concealed ducted units — one per room — with the outdoor units grouped on a flat roof section behind the parapet and pipe routes taken through an existing redundant service void.
Each room ended up with two slim linear slot diffusers and a discreet wall controller. Guests get independent control; the hotel gets equipment it can service one room at a time without closing a floor.
Six weeks on site, and — the detail the owner cares about most — a measured 26 dB(A) at the pillow in the quietest room.
